How Was Your Thanksgiving?

If you are single or divorced, there is a decent chance you did not have a great Thanksgiving. This is especially true if you don't currently live in the city in which you grew up or where your family lives.

Well, you are not alone. (Even if you feel alone.) This is why the week AFTER Thanksgiving is usually a busy one at dating services. In fact the weekend after any holiday is usually a busy one.

So if you have been considering joining a dating service this is a good week to do so, as you will be pooled with many people riding in the same boat, who would LOVE to meet someone to spend the holidays with.

A Message To Women From a Bald Guy

A few weeks ago I read somewhere the following statement from a single woman:

"Who do bald guys think they are kidding by wearing a baseball hat?"

Well the other day I made my annual visit to my skin doctor. And he gave me the annual admonition that I have heard every year for the past couple of decades.

"Make sure whenever you go outside, even on cloudy days, that you cover up your head to avoid any chance of developing skin cancer!"

So ladies, that is why we "follicly-challenged" guys always wear baseball hats. It is not an ego thing.

Cheating on Cheating Research...Talk About Wasting Research Funds!

A recent "USA Today" article on infidelity research had some fascinating results. Attendees at a conference of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies heard various reports on infidelity among married couples.

But the most interesting point (to me) was that the researchers reported that all of their years of research are probably seriously tainted, because a lot of people cheat when answering questions on cheating! David Adkins, a professor at the University of Washington, stated that even on an anonymous survey, many married people are afraid to admit that they cheated on their spouses.

Moreover, he also pointed out "that some people interpret sex as intercourse and others don't."

They then reported on various studies of cheating trends over a 15 year period among men and women, young and old, etc.

But what's the point of spending money on these surveys and holding conferences if the cheaters are cheating?

I Love 'The Office!'

I know, I know.

I constantly criticize the media for the way tv and the movies portray dating and relationships. And I have written before that office romances are not a good idea. This is true especially in this day and age when women have professional jobs. In the "old days" (way back before the mid-60s), women worked in offices primarily to snare a husband.

Today if a workplace romance doesn't work out, problems certainly ensue.

BUT when it comes to the only decent show being aired on "NBC" these days, "The Office," I don't care that they keep portraying all types of office romances. Let's see, there is Jim and Pam, there was Roy and Pam, there was Jim and Karen, there was Kelly and Ryan, then Kelly and Daryl, and now Kelly and Ryan again, Dwight and Angela, and Andy and Angela, (and still Dwight and Angela), and Phyllis and Bob Vance (of Vance Regrigeration).

And of course last but not least there was Michael and Jan and now Michael and Holly. But see that is where problems follow, as poor Holly was transferred to Nashua!

But I repeat, I don't care. "The Office" is the most brilliantly written and funniest show on television since, since, forever! Yes I prefer it over "Seinfeld," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and even "All in the Family" for consistency and producing laugh out loud moments in my household!

So sue me!

The US's Dating Quotient Goes Up!

The recent election of Barack Obama was met with wild enthusiasm all over this planet, as exhuberant celebrations broke out on every Continent.

In my writing I always use the term "Dating Quotient" to measure how easy or difficult it will be for any single person to make new friends.

So, as the US attempts to repair its somewhat battered image abroad, I think I can safely assert that at least for the forseeable future, our country's DQ is much higher, in our efforts to make new allies and repair and renew our relations with many other countries!

Would You Date Someone with Different Political Views?

Tomorrow many of us will be voting and probably spending at least an hour or two waiting in line.

So let's say while standing in line you strike up a conversation with a very attractive member of the opposite sex. The two of you immediately lock eyes and feel incredible chemistry.

Naturally you eventually ask whom he or she will be voting for, and the answer is not the person or party for whom you are planning to vote.

What would you do? According to three different Presidential dating priority polls that we ran at LunchDates, one in 1988, one in 2000, and one in 2004, here is what you are likely to do.

If you are a woman voting for Obama, and your line-mate is a McCain guy, the odds are you will turn and run. If you are a male Obama voter and you meet a female McCain voter, you will be less interested, but you still might ask for her number. The same holds true for female McCain voters meeting an Obama guy.

As for McCain men meeting a female Obama voter, well, if he is very attracted to her, he could care less about her politics. In fact if she turns and runs, he will probably follow!
